From your Missions Committee:
The water protectors of the Standing Rock have inspired the world with their opposition to the Dakota Access Pipeline which threatens sacred lands and waters. Under the aegis of the national United Church of Christ social action network, one half of the proceeds from our Christmas Eve collection will go to support the water protectors of Standing Rock. In your name, MCC will donate $940 to this cause.
During the three-day weekend of January 20th to 22nd the Upper Valley Refugee Working Group (UVRWG) will host an event to raise community awareness of the needs of those seeking shelter among us: refugee families arriving in New Hampshire and Vermont during the coming new year, as well as those homeless families already present in our communities.
Every household needs a lamp–or two–to brighten the home! Our artists’ installation will feature gently used table and floor lamps to brighten the years ahead. Do you have one to share? Contact Ed Cousineau if you have one to donate. (Other refugee and community household needs will also be posted, and we will be collecting financial contributions for the Vermont Refugee Resettlement Program and the Upper Valley Haven.)
Please mark your calendars for an “illuminating experience,” and help us shine the light of hope in the hearts and in the homes of those seeking shelter in our two states. An Upper Valley site for the installation will be announced in early January. In this time of transition, help us make 2017 a year of lights!
